Busaba gets a monkey
I’ve been working with Busaba Eathai for a period of time, developing their in-house design department on all sorts of behind-the-scenes and public facing print material. They were looking for a number of design items aimed at children. I created a character design based on the Monkey King story, which will appear across a range of light branding. The character will be produced as a pin...

As part of a new collective project titled Lunartik & Chums, curated by Matt Jones and featuring Pete Fowler, Ian Stevenson, Triclops, Phil Corbett and Toaster, I was invited to create artwork for an Art Pass Travel Card Holder. My design, titled “Ride the Beast”, features a Choto riding a hybrid Choto creature in various Bus colours. The Beast’s tail is dipped in yellow...

Choto
As part of The Joy Of Toy event in Japan, I premiered a new character sculpture. Choto is a species of character I have been evolving for some time and the show was a great excuse to debut a new sculpture. Each one is hand cast in resin and hand painted - no one is the same. There are only five in existence at the moment, but I will be releasing a limited edition of 20 in the next few weeks. This...

Joy Of Toy (UK+JAPAN)
The second main Joy of Toy event travelled around the globe to take place in Japan. The exhibition, in conjunction with CCC, was made up of two rooms filled with character artwork (in 2D and 3D) by Pete Fowler, Tokyoplastic, Dehara, Shin Tanaka, AtelierSANGO, Planet Planter and artists from HexaProject.       Each of the artists who were able to attend the event presented their work in a series...

Tokyo
In contrast to the small city of Shizuoka and in contrast to pretty much every other city in the world, Tokyo is the epitome of “sprawling metropolis”.   There is not much to say about Tokyo that hasn’t already been said - its built around “being different”; each district is different to its neighbour, each person has their own style, even if most of the time it is...

Shizuoka
Shizuoka (静岡市) is a curious city, nestled between the mountains (including Fuji-san) and the Pacific Ocean. The central commercial district is quite small, but thriving with Japanese sensibility. Shizuoka is famous for its green tea - the green tea and white chocolate cookies are an amazing creation. It seems an honestly conservative and traditional city; very clean, seemingly safe, the people...

Japan
I recently visited Japan - an amazing country that I have wanted to experience for a long time. First stop was Shizuoka, a day trip to Kyoto and then on to Tokyo. I was in Shizuoka to present The Joy of Toy exhibition. I will post more about that shortly. Kyoto was sight-seeing (along with the hoards of other tourists) and Tokyo was a chance to meet up with some good friends. (see more from the...

A Long Night's Riot
The ‘So Long Utopia’ collection is returning to EASTGALLERY from Thursday 26th November in a redux exhibition titled ‘A Long Night’s Riot’. For me that is an old title, having first appeared in a set of illustrations from about 5 or 6 years ago. However, it is being applied to a new body of work which will feature additional pen and ink drawings and archived paintings...

Words of the time
Anticrisis/Anti-crisis: It resonates the direction we should be ordering ourselves towards. Gross Happiness Index: As opposed to Gross Domestic Product. Used by the Kingdom of Bhutan to measure national growth. Consider how happy are you before considering how rich are you. Self Amazement: More fulfilling than self achievement. Work towards your successes and learn along the way. Each and...

Cuppa Tea Tour
The Lunartik in a Cup of Tea tour hits Vienna this weekend, having already taken in London and Amsterdam. My contribution to the show is the somewhat life hardened, out-of-your mind to a rock star level, beat up old blanket of a thing named Ayahuasca Kachina. The spiritual little guy (just don’t ruffle his feathers or you’ll feel his wrath) will be heading up to Scotland and on to...

London Fashion Week
I’ve been just about the busiest I have ever been these past few weeks helping out Barnzley and Joe Corre on their A Child Of The Jago London Fashion Week event. Held at Wilton’s Music Hall, the on schedule show presented their new collection of menswear in a spectacular visual experience. As well as assisting with the design of the clothing (including the design of the dazzle pattern...

I was commissioned to design the signage for a new tea and book shop located on London’s picturesque Amwell Street. I also painted their soon to be put in place swing sign, with Alice on one side… …and The Mad Hatter (with White Rabbit) on the...

Due to holiday madness I’ve not had the chance to tell you about the release of The Daily Terror. It’s been in the works for a while and is now out and about around London as the antidote to the throw away press that clogs up our eyes and minds. Produced for A Child Of The Jago, The Daily Terror features an abundance of must have knowledge. From Liam Maher’s excellent Militant...

The Illustrated Ape - Monorex Edition
The latest issue of The Illustrated Ape is now in shops. I teamed up with the Monorex crew to put together the special edition, loosely themed around ‘the animated ape’ but more heavily influenced by the wealth of creative people available to Monorex.
